"After Island" is the latest photography publication by acclaimed Hong Kong-based independent photographer Chan Long Hei. Known for his previous works "Hong Kong Is Beautiful, Isn’t It?" and "The Unspeakable," Chan continues his artistic journey, shifting focus from societal issues to exploring the depths of personal reflection and memory. This photobook is a collection of black-and-white images, each a manifestation of Chan’s intuitive and instinctual response to moments captured on a particular island in recent years. These photographs are more than mere images; they represent Chan’s intense emotions and thought processes during a significant period, creating a tangible connection with every landscape and object he encountered.

The book takes readers on a visual journey where Chan begins at a holiday resort, wanders along a coastal drive, and immerses himself in the beach’s natural beauty. His path leads him through rustic lanes to the wilderness, joining cattle in their serene habitat. The images capture the delicate interaction between the cattle, symbolizing a universal language of affection and comfort amidst absurdity. Chan's work transcends traditional photography, offering a glimpse into his personal experiences and the unspoken bond with the southern shores of the island. The photobook stands as a private album, sealed with the after-images that linger in Chan's vision, a testament to his unique perspective on life and nature.
